Actually, the thread made it to 4 or 5 pages without piquing my interest until I noticed a fellow atheist showed up and posted. That's the only reason I bothered to look - honest to god goodness! Like I said, theology is far less interesting to me than atheism.

OH, THE IRONY OF IT ALL.............Global Warming

Awww. QC - I did not realize that I was abusing you "publically" (or at all), by pointing out the faults of your argument. I wish to state for the record and for sake of my personal integrity, that I did not intend to hurt your feelings.
I also would like to add that you have chosen to argue your points on a public board, and if anyone else here has chosen to insult you and if you have chosen also to insult them, well . . . perhaps that is the price one pays for arguing on a public board, no?
Sorry you took it all so personally.
I am sure you are a very busy and hard-working person and that it is difficult to research and to follow along with scientific arguments. I myself also find it challenging and would never seek to abuse you or any other person who is challenged as I am.
If you truly feel that you have been "publically abused," I urge you to report that to the moderators so that they may take appropriate action.

Disfellowshiped/Disassociated VS. Other non JWs
by pierogi inif someone is disfellowshiped or disassociates themselves from the jws, they are to be considered "worldly", right?
if jws can talk to other non jws, why are non jws who used to be .
jws so much worse that they can't talk to them?
-
Madame Quixote
D'fed and D'a'ed ex-jws aren't "worse" than non jws; it's just that they got smart and figured out they belonged to a cult, (or they were on the way to figuring it out), and were then labelled by the elders as "unrepentant," thus they got kicked out, shunned.
That (shunning of questioning members) minimizes the risk that others will also "get smart" and leave.
No association, no knowledge, no smarts.
JW organization doesn't like it's members to be that smart. They like followers. When followers get "smart" they lead, and if they lead well, the congregation shrinks and people leave with the smarter leaders, (rather than being led by the nose by a book publishing company and its "elders").

I skipped over the religious junk.

LT - As an example of the absurdity of which I spoke, the following is from one of the sites you recommended above, on the Biblical Anthropology link:
"Man was created by an immediate act of God and is thus not the result of evolutionary processes."
Now, I thought I read above, where you said "by the way, I believe in evolution."
Fine. Then, I must assume that you also believe that evolution was somehow directed by god or something, if you're a theist? If not, why promote pseudoscientific websites like that one which states that evolutionary processes aren't valid? It just seems a bit absurd to promote evolution and creationism at the same time.

Sorry about all the z's. The large font is an allusion to a joke that says,"whoever yells the loudest wins," not something I actually believe.
The quotes also are intended to allude to the "blinding by science" argument, whereby someone "wins" an argument by presenting scientific or mathematical info that is either so "far out," or so difficult for the person addressed to relate to or comprehend, that they simply stare, aghast, at the absolute complexity or absurdity of it.
In my case, I find it absurd to argue religion over science, but that's just me. I'm not talking about NOMA, either.
I mean, why would evolutionary atheists care about theology, something many of us don't even believe deserves to have -ogy at the end of it?
As far as I am concerned, and as far as most evolutionary scientists are concerned, theology is nonsense, and the terminology of nonsense is not of interest.
Obviously, some here disagree, but I just don't care about theology. Being brought up as a JW, I was completely blindsided by it and plan never to be so "blinded" again.
Just thought I'd share my perspective, as everyone else has done, and elaborate, sense you asked.

Close friend needs advice -- about to be cut off and lose inheritance
by Dogpatch inthis is a plea from a close friend of mine who is a 4th or 5th generation jw who left a few years ago due to the wt's corruption.
she lives next door to her mother and now another jw family related to her.
she is looking for any advice from any of you that has been in a similar situation, how you dealt with it, and her options.

I think you should definitely hire an attorney or seek some kind of professional guidance in the matter.
My experience/observations over a similar situation reminds me that what troubledmind says about durable power of attorney is extremely important, while your mom is still healthy and mindful enough to make informed decisions.
I know my jw g-ma has been bilked, if not abused, by my jw family and I am powerless to prove or establish any foundation to help her, as a d'f'ed and therefore discredited person in the family. Additionally, my gma has dementia and can't remember how she gets those little bruises she often has. Who knows where they came from?
When my own JW mom tried to steal 25 G out from under grandma, it was only pure luck that got it back. At the time my jw mom had P.O.A.! The only reason she lost power of attorney is because of her own big mouth - preaching about doing something illegal; apparently, she must have assumed that it was legal and justified to take her own mother's money (while at the same time screaming for a divorce from her beloved jw hubby) and telling the guy at the bank making the transfer that gma had alzheimers and could not handle her own money. Of course, gma went along with the transfer because of my over-bearing mom.
Anyway, mom's self-righteous jw attitude is what led her to justify taking money from gma without consulting any of the other non-jw siblings about it. When they got wind of it, she lost P.O.A.
Unfortunately, the jw family has complete control of the health care situation of my gma and I suspect there's abuse and neglect, but can't prove it and the non-jw family are in denial and live farther away than I do. It's very sad to be in such a situation and to be powerless to do anything about it.
Again, get an attorney right away. Keep notes, journal, diary of all weird and emotionally alienating things that are said or done against you by your family. That is very important documentation.
